Australian actress Cate Blanchett has bought a large oil garden painting by Auckland artist Karl Maughan.
Blanchett, who is playing the lead role in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler in New York, bought the 153 x 153 cm work, entitled Blackheath, via Sydney art dealer Martin Browne, whose Potts Point gallery hosts an exhibition of Maughan paintings until April 2.
Browne, who is Blanchett's art adviser, said the painting would hang in her new $10 million home in Hunter's Hill, one of Sydney's oldest and plushest suburbs.
