Two enduring television programmes which celebrate rural New Zealand have been given funding by NZ On Air.
The country's longest-running television show, Country Calendar, has been allocated $239,000 for a further 13 half-hour episodes to screen on TV One later this year.
The funding body has also given just over $100,000 for a one-off screening of the annual Young Farmer contest, which is in its 32nd year.
Country Calendar, which has been screening since 1966, is the best-rating of all programmes funded by NZ On Air.
NZ On Air chief executive Jo Tyndall said Country Calendar was relatively expensive to make and could not be produced without public funding.
