Evermore's first album may never be released in the United States. Instead, the band plan to record their second album and then hit America.
"I think they can make a much better record, and so do they," says Seymour Stein, co-founder and boss of Evermore's US record label Sire Records.
The band signed to the label - made famous by the Ramones, Talking Heads and Madonna - in July. It also looks after artists like the Futureheads, the Distillers, and Mandy Moore.
Stein said the original plan was to release their debut, Dreams, in the US but the band believe they can do a better album, so everything is on hold.
"Unless it's something I am diametrically opposed to, I try and give the artists as much freedom as possible," says Stein, "and they brought it up."
He's heard four new songs and likes what he hears.
"I love two of them, and I like the other two. But the [first] two are quite mind-boggling."
In terms of launching a band like Evermore into the notoriously parochial and competitive US market Stein says the band, - brothers Dann, Jon and Peter Hume of Feilding - have a great story to tell.
"That's one thing that doesn't worry me about having to wait. I think they'll win a few Aria Awards [Australian music awards] too."
Plus, says Stein, because they are a three-piece, it's easier to tour as a band around America.
"They're used to living in one room anyway and I think we'll get a lot of mileage out of them in terms of touring. They work very hard and they really like what they're doing and we've got to work to get them on the radio."
Evermore's song It's Too Late is one of five finalists in the Apra Silver Scroll Awards which are on September 12.
