New to the block is award-winning David Huang's third Espresso Workshop, following the success of his cafes in St Georges Bay Rd, Parnell, and Owens Rd, Epsom. The latest incarnation is in Falcon St, Parnell, and David, along with roaster Andrew Smart, have created another unique coffee outfit ready for the toughest aficionado. David's large list of barista accolades guarantee this will be a good experience.
The clean, distinct taste of the pour over filter coffee presents a smooth coffee, incomparable to espresso. The Ethiopian Sidamo brought forth raisin and red grapefruit flavours with a floral jasmine aroma, while the Costa Rican Herbazu has a soft citrus taste with a subtle toffee sweetness and an elegant, clean aftertaste. The flat white was as it should be, not overly intrusive and not too much milk - a perfect balance - presenting cocoa, ripe fruit and red apple notes that increase in elegance as they linger on the palate.
Roasted in-house, these beans are well-matched with their required method of coffee brewing and will be aged to perfection, bearing in mind that beans are at their best three to 10 days after roasting.
Espresso Workshop, 19 Falcon St, Parnell, ph (09) 375 1463, Saturday 8am-3pm, Mon-Fri 7.30am-3.30pm.
