Quirky Auckland pop band the Brunettes may have missed out on winning their record label's promotional contest (the Air New Zealand Zephyrs Competition) but they have a good chance at winning a b.Net Award.
The band are nominated in six categories at this year's awards including Best Album, Best Song and Best Vocalist.
This will be the sixth year b.Net - the network of student radio stations - have staged the awards, which were set up as a hip alternative to the New Zealand music industry's mainstream prizes, the Tuis.
This year's multiple Tui-winners the Datsuns have three b.Net nominations, including Best Live Act, despite not performing in the country for months.
Salmonella Dub, who took home three b.Nets last year and three Tuis this year, have also made it into this year's b.Nets, nominated for Best Downbeat Release for their remix album, Outside the Dub Plates, and Best Music Video.
Voting is open to the public on www.bnet.co.nz until September 5, and the winners will be announced on September 19 at the Bruce Mason Centre.
A judging panel will decide the winners of Most b.Net Radio Play, International Achievement, Best Musician and Best Producer categories.
