The menu is short and sweet (and savoury). There are just seven listings - from the farmer's breakfast (prosciutto, boiled egg, fresh tomato, swiss cheese, gherkin and sourdough, $12.50) and the house muesli ($9) to toast with a long list of great side options (avocado, feta, pastrami, bacon, kasundi, etc).
The look is warm and welcoming, opening out on to the fresh fruit and vege market part of Ponsonby Central. There are toasters on the communal table so you can toast your own bread to your liking, and fresh flowers and knick-knacks give the place a homely vibe. The cabinet has an amazing selection of savoury and sweet options from melts and brioche, to pastries and donuts.
The food offerings making it hard to choose from the cabinet or the menu. So we did both. We ordered the farmer's breakfast which was light and fresh, with sourdough and a variety of toppings (tomato, avocado and a boiled egg). Both were great. We grabbed a pear and chocolate pastry (highly recommended!) and a madeleine to go.
The coffee was fine, but having visited other cafes in Ponsonby Central we reckon they do it a little better. Little Bread and Butter's food, though, is top-notch.
