The menu was a mix of tweaked brunch classics (benedicts, pancakes and omelettes) and an alluring array of less common dishes that we were keen to try, such as eggs cocotte and bubble and squeak.
The look was clean and natural, with big exposed wooden rafter walls, huge windows looking out to the street and a cool piece of bicycle art on the wall. This place was a haven for Lycra-clad bikers, buzzing in on the back of their weekend ride.
The food we picked was worth the wait. I was definitely the winner with my choice of organic beef mince with Spanish chorizo and black beans baked in a ramekin, topped with an egg and sprinkled with parmesan, served with a warm, organic ciabatta roll ($18). My companion hastily picked the house smoked fishcakes with broad bean, mixed leaves, living food sprouts, lemon vinaigrette and aioli. They were pretty good, but food envy suggested he could have picked more wisely.
The coffee was beautifully brewed and served in a turquoise cup and saucer. We had to have a second cup.
