The menu is a short, sweet list of just three "morning glories" - bacon and egg doonas, toasted muesli and fresh, warm beignets. Plus the perfectly brewed Havana Coffee Co beans. You won't receive a hard copy menu, just check it out online or show up between 7am and 10.45am every day and one of the friendly staff will rattle the list off for you.
The look is the classic, award-winning Depot that we know and love. It's rustic with an almost bachy, comfortable feel, with an open bar and the kitchen always buzzing. Even on this weekday morning people were stopping for their fill of Al Brown's delights on the way to work.
The food was all very good, but it's the bacon and egg doona that was ordered by almost every single patron in the place. And we can see why. The soft, buttery, sweet bun packed generously with salty bacon and fried egg ($10) made the perfect breakfast sandwich.
The coffee is something Brown gets right at all of his establishments. Our trim ($4) and soy (50c extra) flat whites were spot-on.
The service I have to say, wasn't as memorable as Depot's amazing dinner service, but that is pretty hard to beat, and perhaps the morning glory menu doesn't call for that. The friendly faces on this brunch date were just fine, though.
