The menu had all the expected options and some extras. Sweet treats included waffles with cream, berries and maple syrup, and brioche french toast. We liked the option of a kids' menu with prices for breakfast and lunch ranging from $6 to $9. There's also counter food - fresh scones and muffins, paninis, tarts and slices.
The look is of a relaxed Kiwi beach cafe with surfboards suspended from the ceiling, and the walls decorated with New Zealand art, jandals, a ukulele and the Herald's poster of Jonah Lomu. Framed accolades from visitors like Rod Kendall, Danny Morrison, the Mad Butcher and TV One's breakfast weather team show this is a favourite haunt in the east.
The food was delicious and the servings generous. The salmon eggs benedict came with fresh spinach, and my scrambled eggs came with crispy bacon and a large side of flavoursome mushrooms. Our son polished off scrambled eggs, salmon and avocado on ciabatta in a flash.
The service was bright, friendly and so attentive that we hadn't managed to work our way through the menu by the time they came back for orders. Visiting dogs are well looked after with two water bowls, and extra water canisters, by the outside seating.
