The menu was a small and affordable, organic and free-range breakfast list featuring all your favourites like granola with poached seasonal fruit for the health nuts ($12.50) and plump portobello mushrooms sauteed in butter and thyme ($14.50). We were also very tempted by the homemade cabinet fare, especially the quiche, fish pie and pea and halloumi fritters.
The look was that of a cosy local cafe, inside an old railway cottage. There were just enough tables and wicker chairs inside to cater to the happy Saturday morning crowd. Outside, the covered courtyard appealed but we would rather come back in spring when the winter chill doesn't bite so much.
The food was very generous, with my $22.50 Brighton Road Hash spread keeping my belly full right through until dinner time. The bacon was beautifully crispy and the mushrooms succulent, but it was the crunchy, salty triangles of hash that proved a must-have. Get them as a side, no matter what.
The coffee was Kokako, served in a pretty Italian-made turquoise cup and saucer and arrived minutes after ordering.
