The menu for the morning was three delicious-sounding items, with an option to design your own plate by picking from breakfast elements like bacon, eggs, portobello mushrooms, salmon and spinach. There were some alluring cabinet treats and a longer menu for later in the day, prepared by ex-Masu chef Korapin Sripong.
The look was big, bright and airy on this sunny Saturday. The welcoming open window and bench seat along the front of this refurbished corner cafe drew us in, along with the other Parnell patrons.
The food was hit-and-miss with our two picks. The Good Morning Burrito ($12.50) was the first thing that appealed to both of us, but when it arrived, I felt like I'd lost. My wise addition of chorizo ($6) added interest to an otherwise uninteresting white flatbread folded over and filled with some scrambled egg, a few bits of avocado and a humble squirt of homemade red pepper salsa. The filling was well-cooked and tasty, but perhaps two smaller breakfast burritos would have been better? My partner gloated with his smoked salmon scrambled egg ($21.50) with guacamole, salsa and hollandaise. I wished I had caved to the almond croissants calling my name at the counter.
The coffee was very good Allpress beans that we'd pop back in for.
The service was very friendly. They provided the right amount of chat, asked for feedback on the burrito as we paid (it's had mixed reviews) and warmly bid us farewell with a rub on the arm.
