The menu was short but interesting, with standard favourites including eggs benedict ($16.50) and brioche french toast ($15.50) alongside more exciting options such as chorizo hash ($16.50) and the portobello sandwich with spinach, pumpkin, whipped feta, basil pesto and toasted focaccia ($14.50).
The look was clean, polished and pretty quiet on this Saturday afternoon. We sat by the foldout windows overlooking the street and enjoyed the sunshine. It filled up a bit later, towards lunch, with people making good use of the upstairs deck which has a lovely view overlooking Howick's main street.
The food was very good. We ordered the chorizo hash, which was crushed potato, chorizo, tomato chilli jam, topped with poached eggs, rocket and hollandaise; and a meal we constructed from the host of side dishes - avocado, tomato and poached eggs on ciabatta ($10). The hash was hearty and tasty and hit the spot, and the eggs and avocado on toast were healthy and delicious.
The coffee was great. But points off for the glasses they serve their lattes in - old fashioned, tall, V-shape glasses with a tiny handle. Completely impractical and we felt silly trying to drink from them.
