Six young playwrights have been singled out in the eighth New Zealand Young Playwrights Competition.
Open to people aged from 16 to 22, it is organised by script development organisation and agency Playmarket.
The winners were: Paul Rothwell (Auckland), for Deliver Us; Zoe Deverick (Auckland), for Pond Life: In the Eye of the Beholder; Thomas Sainsbury (Auckland), for The One; Owen Winter (Masterton), for Castlepoint Dreaming; Robbie Ellis (Wellington), for Drift; and Kate Morris (Dunedin), for Consuming Vanessa.
"These young writers have created stories that tackle a wide range of subjects - from family dilemmas and childhood memories to self-image, abortion and war," Playmarket script development co-ordinator Kathy McRae said.
The six writers will be teamed up with professional directors and casts for a week of workshops in Dunedin from June 27 to July 1.
