Breastfeeding mum's cafe surprise

She just wanted to enjoy a meal out at a cafe. But the moment her dish arrived, her eight-week-old son made it clear he wanted to be fed.

Kiwi mum Briar Mcqueen, 22, set aside her food and began breastfeeding her little boy, Jaxon.

Noticing a woman approaching her, Mcqueen feared she was about to be berated for breastfeeding in public. But what happened next was quite the opposite.

The woman smiled and said: "What a good mamma putting your son first, let me cut your food up for you so you can eat with one hand. We can't have your food going cold, can we?"

Mcqueen, from Tauranga, was reportedly overwhelmed as the kind stranger proceeded to cut up her food.

"I started to well up and couldn't thank her enough. I was so surprised and in complete awe of her. I forgot to ask her name but I just thanked her over and over again and then she just walked off like it was nothing," Briar told kidspot.com.au.

"I was smiling all day about it."

The new mum decided to share her encounter on Facebook. The post has received more than 290,000 reactions and over 11,000 shares.

Mcqueen told Kidspot she is "in shock" over the thousands of messages and friend requests her post has generated.

She believes the post has gone viral because it serves as a counter to "all the negative crap going on in the world right now..."
