Not to be outdone by New Zealand's Olympic athletes, 648 children and teachers set their own Olympian goal with a Guinness World Record bid for the largest cereal breakfast.
Flushed with inspiration from Valerie Adams' silver medal-winning effort in the shotput earlier in the morning, the children ate their way through 300 boxes of Weet-Bix - doubling the previous record held by a school in New York.
The record, attempted by students from 15 schools, required 420kg of Weet-Bix, 400 litres of milk and support from 100 event staff.
Double Olympic gold medallist Danyon Loader, Olympic gold medallist Rob Waddell and 2008 Olympian Moss Burmester were on hand to offer support and share their own Games insights with the kids.
Organisers hope to have the record verified within a few weeks.
