What is the name of Paikea's (aka Kahu's) father in Witi Ihimaera's novel Whale Rider, which was adapted into the film for which Keisha Castle-Hughes received an Oscar nomination?
Who was the father of the horse, Gladly, in the novel Gladly, Here I Come by Joy Cowley?
What was Tin Tin's little white dog called?
These are just some of the pre-test questions being offered by Quizmaster Wayne Mills to help schools select students to compete in the annual Paperplus Kids' Lit Quiz.
Teams of four Year 7 and 8 students will display their knowledge of children's literature while competing in the regional heats, which kick off in Nelson this Friday.
These teams will be asked 100 questions arranged in 10 categories. The winners of each heat will travel to Auckland to compete in the national final, to be held at the Storylines Festival Family Day at Aotea Centre, The Edge, on Sunday June 20.
This year they will be joined by students from Dunblane High School, Scotland, the winning team from the first Kids' Lit Quiz event held in Britain over November and December last year.
And now for the answers to the questions: Porourangi; Shadrach; Snowy. For more details, email klq@xtra.co.nz
