Reading does bring rewards. Manukau Libraries have developed a programme encouraging teenagers, 13-17 years, to read.
Teenagers participate by reading books with guidance from a list of recommended authors and titles, and filling out an evaluation form to gain points towards a selection of prizes — some books gaining more rewards than others.
Participating libraries are: Auckland City, Christchurch City, Manukau, Napier and Taradale, South Waikato District, Waipawa and Waitakere. Several libraries also offer the opportunity for readers to meet New Zealand writers Janet Hunt, Ted Dawe and Brian Falkner.
