LIANZA (The Library and Information Association of New Zealand, Aotearoa) has announced the shortlists for its annual children's book awards.

There are four categories for distinguished contributions to New Zealand children's literature: Esther Glen (fiction), Russell Clark (illustration), Elsie Locke (non-fiction), Te Kura Pounamu (te reo).

The Esther Glen shortlist is: Ken Catran, Jacko Moran Sniper (Lothian); Ted Dawe, Thunder Road (Longacre); Brian Falkner, Henry and the Flea (Mallinson Rendel); V.M. Jones, Juggling With Mandarins (HarperCollins); V.M. Jones, The Serpents of Arakesh (HarperCollins).

The awards will be presented at the LIANZA Conference in Auckland on Monday, September 6. More shortlists next week.
