Since 1967, countries belonging to Ibby (The International Board on Books for Young People) have celebrated Hans Christian Andersen's birthday, April 2, with an International Children's Book Day.
The aim of this day is to draw attention to children's books and to inspire a love of reading all around the world.
The sponsoring country this year is Greece, which has chosen the theme "The Light of the Books".
The National Book Centre of Greece, in co-operation with the Greek section of Ibby, has prepared the printed material for the International Children's Book Day with a message from writer Angeliki Varela for the children of the world, and a poster (pictured) designed by illustrator Nicholas Andrikopoulos.
You can see Angeliki's message on the internet at http://www.ibby.org/Seiten/04child.htm and download the poster at www.ibby-canada.org/news.html
