The first lot of finalists in the New Zealand Music Awards have been announced and Bic Runga is the frontrunner.
She is nominated for two Tuis in the technical awards for her album Birds.
The winners of these technical categories will be announced at a ceremony on September 6. Also on that day the finalists in the main award categories, including best album, best song, and best video will be revealed.

Best album cover: Chris Knox for As Sweet As Sin (Bleeders); Joe Garlick for The Return of Fly My Pretties (Fly My Pretties); Stephen Tolfrey for End the Silence (Blindspott).
Best engineer: Andre Upston for Birds (Bic Runga); Andrew Spraggon and Angus McNaughton for Moves On (Sola Rosa); Lee Prebble for The Return of Fly My Pretties (Fly My Pretties).
Best producer: Bic Runga for Birds (Bic Runga); Don McGlashan, Sean Donnelly and Ed McWilliams for Warm Hand (Don McGlashan); David Holmes for Like Stray Voltage (Gramsci).
The main awards ceremony is at the Aotea Centre in Auckland on October 18.
