KEY POINTS:
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham took time out from the field to launch a fragrance range at a Sydney department store.
In town to play a friendly match with his Los Angeles Galaxy club, Beckham spent his time off the pitch soaking up the sights of the harbour city and yesterday spruiked his "Intimately David Beckham Night" range of fragrances at a downtown Myer store.
Dressed in a gray suit and open neck white shirt, Beckham pulled a crowd of thousands of mainly women for the launch, posing for official photos with 15 junior soccer players and presenting Galaxy jerseys to 10 prize winners.
Hundreds of others captured his image with cell phone cameras and small digitals, some sitting on the shoulders of others.
Television crews broadcast from the launch as fans queued up to catch a glimpse of the former England captain come soccer celebrity.
His wife Victoria was preparing for the Spice Girls reunion tour and could not travel to Sydney, but Beckham promised to bring the complete Beckham range back next time.
"It's been incredible. I have to say thank you," Beckham told the crowd.
"I'll definitely be back with the family and kids - without a doubt."
The Beckhams launched their his-and-hers fragrance range with a steamy advertisement campaign in August and the scents have been on sale in the US since September.
The men's range is touted as a "modern woody-spicy accord radiating warmth and sensuality" and containing notes of bergamot, grapefruit zest and cardamom.
Eau de toilette, after shave lotion, body spray and a deoderant stick are available in the men's range, while the women's range - which incorporates bergamot, Casablanca lily, vanilla and sandalwood scents - comes in eau de toilette, body silk lotion and shower gel.
Next stop for Galaxy is Westpac Stadium in Wellington, where 28,000 of the 35,000 seats have already been sold for Saturday's match.
