Up-dos, ponytails, braids and brush-outs are all figuring as hair looks in various guises at Fashion Week. Here Lauren Gunn explains how to achieve cutting-edge versions of two of these looks at home.
LOOK ONE
Designers are reworking the traditional female stereotype of the 1950's housewife with old-school bouffants and up-dos, reclaiming hyperfemininity as cool. This look is a broken-down version of that used by the Stephen Marr team at the Juliette Hogan show yesterday.
1 Part the hair into two sections from ear to ear, pulling the back section into a high ponytail.
2 Use a wide-tooth comb (try a Kevin Murphy Texture Comb) to back-brush the ponytail to make a bouffant cushion of hair at the crown and secure it with pins.
3 Take both side sections and wrap them over and around the bouffant, tucking the ends under and securing with pins.
4 Run some Sebastian Gel Forte through the top section with your fingers, sweeping it up and away from your face, and pin it in place at the back of your crown. Use a little more gel to smooth the sides and back.
LOOK TWO
The low ponytail replaces the top-knot as one of the hottest upcoming trends. Keep an eye out for interesting variations of this look on the runways this year, including at Ruby this morning.
1 Shake dry a generous dousing of Sebastian Trilliant Shimmer Complex into the hair. Make a centre part and set some texture into the sides with a couple of randomly placed butterfly clips and some Sebastian Zero G Hairspray.
2 Pull the hair into a half-ponytail, leaving a section of hair out around the perimeter of the head.
3 Loosely sweep the remaining section over the ears and back into the ponytail.
4 Take a few strands of hair from the ponytail and wrap them around the elastic band.
