KEY POINTS:
This recent spate of foul weather means one of two things: give in and drink cocoa all winter, or fight it and wear bright makeup. Careful how you use them, though. You're after a single hit of colour, not a send in the clowns look with clashing shades everywhere.
1. L'Oreal Made for Me Naturals Lipstick British Red
$21.99
I say, what jolly good fun this cheerful bright red lipstick is. You won't be missed in this. The added bonus is it has a soft, creamy texture and Vitamin E to keep lips moisturised.
From selected department stores, variety stores, pharmacies and supermarkets.
2. Australis Nail Enamel Paparazzi Purple
$9.90 for 10ml
Some of the whacky nail colours doing the rounds at the moment have a tendency to look like you've jammed your hands in the door. Not this. Bruised nails were never this hot a shade of purple. Splendid stuff for a bit of fun.
From selected department stores, variety stores and pharmacies.
3. Chanel Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow Rivage
$58 for 6ml
Liquid silver eyeshadow may not be something you're going to make a lifelong habit of using, but it's a lot of fun when you're in the mood. Of course, you can tone it right down to a mere wash of sparkle if you blend it before it dries but if you're feeling bold, dramatic silver eyes are all yours.
From selected department stores and pharmacies.
4. Yves Saint Laurent Eye Shadow Duo Antique Gold/Bronze Green
$82 for 2.8g
These only look colourful in the elegant gold compact. In fact, both these colours are eminently wearable. The bronzed moss green is an absolute treat for winter, warming up makeup proceedings.
From selected department stores and pharmacies.
5. M.A.C Eyeshadow Submarine, $34
From the rather fabulous collection Naughty Nauticals, Submarine is a mid-tone clear blue that really is the last word in any nautical look you attempt. Or, if you're hooked on blues, this doesn't have to be so bold. Blend it out a bit and you've got a fresh, pretty blue.
From Smith & Caughey's Newmarket and M.A.C Chancery and St Lukes.
