Address: cnr Wolfe St and Federal St Rating:
First drinks: Like the bar, Mo's menu is compact but classic. We went for a traditional margarita and a manhattan, both of which were competently executed. They may not have the artistic flair of other more modern establishments but they tick the box.
The vibe is: Cosy. It claims tobe Auckland's friendliest little bar and it probably is. It is possibly also Auckland's smallest bar. But that sense of intimacy makes it feel almost like a secret club. Despite its compact size, you can always find a nook to chat in. And the staff are lovely.
It smells of: Nothing on this particular day. When the windows are wide open, it's a breezy little spot. In winter, Mo's is famous for serving mulled wine, which perfumes the bar and the street corner outside.
On the stereo: A vintage selection of jazz and 60s pop.
Room for improvement: Because of its small size, it can easily be over-run by a single large group, which makes it feel like you're crashing a private party. But the staff are always welcoming and make it clear that there's room for everyone.
The perfect spot for: A private debrief. It's the perfect place for a quiet tete-a-tete.
Most redeeming feature: The excellent staff who appear the exact moment you're ready to order another drink. They also serve complimentary corn chips and salsa, which you never think you want but always get hoovered up.
