First drinks were a glass of their sangria clara - a white wine-based sangria that's a little lighter and more summery than the traditional version - and a glass of the 2012 Campo Viejo from their extensive wine list, which is entirely made up of Spanish wines. Both were drinkable and served prettily, without being wildly memorable. They have a mammoth drinks list, with something to suit everyone, from Estrella on tap, to cocktails, and a variety of sherry and cava.
The vibe is dark and sophisticated, with that ever-so-slightly crowded and noisy European vibe. There's higher bar stool-type seating on the street side if you want to people-watch on Federal St, or you can venture to a cosy booth in the back, where the leather seating and interesting wooden slat dividers work nicely together.
And of course they're renowned for their Spanish food, so most patrons were happily snacking on olives, nuts, cheese, or the more substantial pintxos and tapas.
