KEY POINTS:
An Auckland University researcher is on the hunt for people suffering from chronic back pain in an effort to increase understanding about the muscles involved.
It is estimated that 70 to 85 per cent of all people will suffer from back pain at some time their life.
Researcher Jamie Mannion, of the Exercise Rehabilitation Clinic, said often the pain would subside after a short time but occasionally it would continue well after the rest of the body has recovered, resulting in a chronic pain condition.
"We still have a lot to learn about low back pain, which often leaves the cause of the pain unidentified and the patient frustrated and exhausted," Mr Mannion said.
Mr Mannion said he was particularly interested in talking to people, under 60-years-old, who suffered from non-specific low back pain so that he could identify differences between them and pain-free individuals.
