"What's the edge of the world?" Lizzie asked.
"Those nutters at school will tell you the world is round," said Aunt Effie, "but anyone in their right mind can see it's flat. The world is a box with six flat sides," she said.
"When you get to the end of one side, you sail over the edge and across the next side - if you're lucky."
"What if you're unlucky?"
"You fall into space!" Aunt Effie snapped her teeth, and we crawled towards the middle of her bed.
"One side of the world is Britain, Europe, and the Mediterranean," said Aunty Effie.
"The next side is Africa and India. Another side's Russia, China, and the North Pole. North and South America are another side. The fifth side is Australia and Japan.
If you keep going long enough - without falling into space - you come to the South Pacific with our country and the South Pole.
We're on the opposite side of the box from Britain, which is why Poms all have flat heads from walking on them."
