It's become a stalwart in Auckland's Ponsonby bar scene, but entertainment and dining venue The Golden Dawn: Tavern of Power has announced it will shut its doors after seven years in business.
The announcement that the tavern will close in March next year was made on Facebook last night in a heartfelt message to the community of self-confessed "freaks and geeks" who have partied at and supported the popular spot over the years.
The post reads: "There's no easy way to say this, because what we're about to say seemingly defies all logic and sense, but it's with heavy hearts that we have decided to scratch our seven year itch, and bring The Golden Dawn: Tavern of Power to a graceful but extraordinary conclusion. The pop-up that never popped is going out with a bang. At the end of March 2018, we're saying sayonara."
Signed off by Nicholas, Matthew, Stephen and Samuel, the group behind the venue's success promise a fitting farewell for all over the next six months.
"No tears just yet; the end is still six months away! We intend to surprise you, treat you, feed you, water you, and tender loving care for you like never before. Keep watching this space, and don't be a stranger. Good grief, it's been so much fun."
