Among the liquor stores on the list is The Village Winery in Mount Eden. Police are seeking to suspend or cancel the Mt Eden Rd store's licence after they sold alcohol to a minor recently.
"It's not something we're happy about, it was a genuine mistake. It doesn't look good," said manager James Tolmie.
"On a Saturday evening during a busy period when our manager was by himself the police sent in an under-age girl. Her licence was checked by the manager but as he explained there were a number of customers in the shop and a wine tasting. He read her age and completed the transaction with her which resulted in us being 'stung' effectively."
Mr Tolmie said the staffer simply mixed up the girl's age.
"There is now a chart which we keep here for the staff to ensure that they are aware of the cut-off years. And myself and the owner have had a chat with everyone, making sure that we are being vigilant."
Police were also seeking to suspend or cancel the licence at Al Dente Wines on Customs St.
A manager told the Herald an underage customer had been sold alcohol there, too.
"It's our first time, normally we don't sell to underage customers," she said.
"The person on duty that day checked the ID and it was their mistake.
"The customer was only one month off being 18, so it was very close."
Bonnie Johnson is one of the managers police have pinged.
She is the manager of The Grand Hotel Awaroa in Helensville which is also on the licence cutting block.
"We are challenging ours," Ms Johnson said.
"They said we were selling after hours but we weren't."
Ms Johnson said police came to the hotel on a night when a number of bands had played. The bar was closed and no liquor was being sold. However a number of patrons were still in the premises waiting for courtesy vans and sober drivers to pick them up.
Ms Johnson said a fight had erupted down the street so she kept patrons inside, rather than send them out and have them become involved.
"It's a real worry," she said.
