Rock-star turned art connoisseur David Bowie is hoping to bring about radical changes in the lives of a group of undiscovered young artists.
The multi-millionaire plans to showcase the work of 22 students from the Glasgow School of Art on his internet gallery. A former art student, Bowie saw an exhibition by the GSA's master of fine art postgraduate course in New York City.
Bowieart.com was launched by the musician in 1997, to exhibit young artists alongside their successful colleagues. The gallery takes no commission from any sales.
One of the young artists who will now be able to reach a world-wide audience through the auspices of Bowieart.com is Ilana Halpern. Her innovative and thought-provoking work, The Difficulty of Falling in Love During an Earthquake, includes a bath tub full of water which erupts like a geyser. "People are really excited that Bowie is interested in working with us. It is great to get recognition for our work," said Halpern.
