Out of the studio and into the faces of passersby. That's what's happening for art by Elam and Unitec students until August 10, as shops along K Rd exhibit their work in shop windows.
The Art in the Store-Front project is an initiative of the K Rd Business Association and allows students to display their work in the main block of K Rd (between Queen and Pitt Sts) in more than 30 shop windows, wall spaces and display areas. Some of the works will be for sale; the project will also give a profile to a weekend art market on the street.
And the same concept is also running on the other side of town, at the Remuera Shopping Centre, where 63 Elam students are exhibiting in shop windows until August 17. The best work, judged by dealer John Gow and Elam head Professor Michael Dunn, will be awarded $1000 tomorrow, and Associate Professor Carole Shepheard leads a "walk and talk" around the exhibition on Thursday from 10am, starting at 320 Remuera Rd.
