ARIA red carpet dominated by boring black

Black may be the colour of choice for the rock'n'roll set but it made for a somewhat boring red carpet at the 2011 ARIA music awards.

Sisters Kylie and Dannii Minogue opted for the signature colour but while both looked pretty there wasn't any risk-taking with their red carpet choices.

Kylie, who was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame on Sunday night, had a black dress with frilly straps and a sheer skirt.

Dannii Minogue also played it safe in a long black dress with belted waist.

Black was also the colour of choice for singers Kasey Chambers, Adalita, and Ricki-Lee Coulter, in White Suede, and TV presenter Erin McNaught.

Jessica Malbouy's Daniela-Stephanie gown was predominately black but sparkled with floral embellishments.

The sea of black on the red carpet was punctuated by glitter, with singers Natalie Bassingthwaighte, in Alex Perry, and Jessica Rae opting for silver sequinned or shimmery minidresses.

Guy Sebastian wore a silver suit jacket while his pregnant wife Jules Egan sparkled in her black dress.

* DELTA GOODREM - Stunning in a body-hugging high-necked sleeveless tan dress with floor-length black lace overlay by Lisa Ho.

* ANDRES VELENCOSO - If the summer sun wasn't enough to work up a sweat, Kylie Minogue's handbag, sorry ... model boyfriend definitely did. Kylie, who arrived in Australia last week as a brunette, was back to blonde for the event.

* REECE MASTIN - The young X Factor winner stood out well from the rest of the boys in his white suit and black boots.

* MISSY HIGGINS - In high-waisted red flared pants and off-white lace top by Lover blended into the red carpet - literally.

* RUBY ROSE - Yellow, purple and bows were an odd combination for Rose, who can usually be relied on to look very rock chic.

* FIFI BOX - Revealed a little too much with her plunging neckline.
