KEY POINTS:
Fashion designers may currently have a penchant for animal prints, but we'd much rather reference the somewhat tacky trend through our interiors with kitsch animal lamps and cute critter accessories. Whether it be bright and pop-art like - think of Jeff Koons' 13m topiary puppy, balloon dog sculptures and inflatable and stainless steel rabbits - or pastel and country inspired, you'll find animals on everything from platters to paperweights and pillows.
Locally, Esther Diamond has created lamps, pillow slips, tea towels, duvets and more with rabbit, deer and fantail prints by artists Martin Popplewell, Leanne Culy and Dick Frizzell. But if cute and cuddly prints and ceramics don't do it for you, perhaps taking the look to the next level with a taxidermied animal will.
The mounted beasts go for high prices at auction - just don't expect to win any favours with animal rights activists.
