Fashion magazines say accessories make an outfit, a statement Selina Birch knows to be true. She works as the accessories buyer for Farmers, a job that involves deciding what accessories will be available for customers to purchase from the stores, as well as travelling to Europe and the United States twice a year. "This is a key part of my job, as a lot of my decisions for the upcoming season are based on this trip. It involves looking at trends, colours, styles, merchandising and how it's all being promoted," says Birch, who has worked at Farmers for three years.
Of course, buying for such a broad customer base can be tricky. "I need to buy accessories that are suitable for everyone from teenage girls to women nearing 100!"
Birch's own style, a fashionable take on the contemporary classic look, is shaped by her passion for accessories. "I love black, it goes with everything - accented with a statement accessory of course!"

True Religion jeans. They just don't seem to die and they are always a great fit.

How do you define the word "fashionable", what does it mean to you?
Being confident in what you wear and how you wear it. It's not about head-to-toe designer, it's about mixing it up and wearing your favourite designer with mainstream bargains.

Ha ha! I often get myself into hot water answering this question so I'll just say "never say never!"
What won't you be wearing this season?
No more bling for me thanks.
What is the biggest fashion/beauty/hair mistake you have ever made?
I cut my hair super-short before deciding to dye it purple. My parents weren't impressed. It was the longest four weeks of my life!
Any style icons?
Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss, Scarlett Johansson, Jade Jagger ... the list goes on.
The one fashion rule that you think should never have been a rule in the first place?
The myth that black and navy or black and brown should not be worn together. I think that black goes with absolutely everything.

Paris. Or anywhere in France. French cities, towns and villages just ooze sophistication and style.
