LOS ANGELES - In the four weeks since he became a dad, Adam Sandler has learned at least one lesson: how to avoid changing nappies.
"I see that go on," the comedian said about his nappy duties while talking to reporters about his latest movie, "Click."
Sandler plays a father whose fast-track career interferes with his family life in the film, which opens in the United States on June 23.
"It's fun. It's great. I love that kid," Sandler said about fatherhood. "I was dying to do it."
His wife, Jackie, gave birth to their daughter, Sadie Madison, in early May. The announcement came via a posting on the former Saturday Night Live comedian's website, but there have been few details disclosed until now.
Sandler, 39, showed some concern that his daughter seems to look straight through him when he's playing with her. "Every time I think the kid likes me. I'm like, 'Oh, she's staring at my forehead," he said.
When asked if he felt pressured by the responsibilities, he said it was just the opposite. "I feel a little more, relief, that I don't have to just think about myself too much anymore. I don't have to talk about how great I am," he joked.
Much of Sandler's fame has been built on low-brow humour in films such as "The Waterboy" and "Big Daddy." Among its gags, "Click" features animals having sex with toys and a great deal of flatulence.
Sandler said that while he might not let his daughter hear his comedy albums - some of which contain even raunchier material - his movies were just fine.
"I like what I've been doing, and I believe in what I've done in the past," he said.
"I don't think she's going to dig 'em until she's maybe 14 or 15 or something, or 10. I know I'll show 'em to her, her whole life. 'Watch daddy now,"' he joked.
