KEY POINTS:
Kiwi bottled water that retails for $7-$12 at home is selling for a whopping £21, or $53, at London's exclusive Claridge's Hotel.
In what is believed to be a world first, the hotel has introduced a water menu list.
The Bacardi-owned, New Zealand-made 420 Volcanic Spring Water - from a spring at the bottom of the extinct volcano at Tai Tapu on Banks Peninsula - is the most expensive on the opulent list.
Brand manager of 420 Volcanic is former Black Cap Dion Nash.
He said the company had always planned to tantalise the tastebuds of the world's rich and famous with 420 Volcanic.
"We had Kate Moss in mind when we developed it," Nash said. "We reckon she fits the brand. I would love it if she tasted it."
For now, Nash is happy enough with the international attention and acclaim the bottles are bringing.
"We won two prestigious awards in Italy six months ago and Claridge's asked for some bottles," Nash said.
"We think it's fantastic but didn't expect to reach the international market so soon."
The product hit Kiwi shelves four months ago and is slowly creeping onto restaurant beverage lists for $7-$12 - nothing like its Claridge's price tag.
"It's great that we are selling for that much in the UK because it's a unique offering and Claridge's feel they can justify that price. Their patrons probably won't blink an eye at the price."
Claridge's put together the extensive list because guests were demanding top quality water.
