You may be busy detoxing your way into the new year, or sweating it out with Kayla Itsines in the hopes of making 2016 your "hottest" year yet.
But after the health and fitness is sorted, what about that hair? As January's focus tends to turn to freshening up appearances, we take a look at the best hair trends to try this year.
Here are five new 'dos to check out for 2016
It's not just one, but two layers of braiding that has us coveting Rooney Mara's slick look from the Golden Globes. When you really should have washed your hair last night, this is a sophisticated style that unlike a messy topknot, tells people you care enough to do your hair, but not too much.

Valentino and Celine showcased long plaits and twisted buns. If you rocked the 2015 lob trend (long bob), you may want to work on growing it out this year as long braids look set to be a strong trend.
Twisted buns are traditional, chic and somehow (usually with a million bobby pins and a can of hair spray) stay in place all night. Try emulating Rachel McAdam's intricate bun, updated by a modern twist with a messy front.
This messy take on the faux bob, as seen on Johnny Depp's wife, Amber Heard, is a great style to take you from office to evening out. Add a red lip and heels after five for a quick day to night transition.
Not up for trying an intricate new style just yet? The likes of Jenna Dewan-Tatum's sparkly accessory is an easy way to update your 'do. Try it paired with matching earrings for a look that's simple yet classy.

It looks like Blair Waldorf headbands are making a comeback this year. Yves Saint Laurent rocked princess tiaras while DFV showcased floral corsages sweeping back curly locks.
Newly engaged Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's sun-kissed glow match her au naturel waves. 2016's answer to sea sprayed, sand grit hair is a softer take on the "I've been to the beach but I'm still looking fresh" look.

Similar to the softening of beach hair, the runways of Carolina Herrera and Victoria Beckham also signalled a move away from "just don't care" hair. It may be time to try a sleeker look, and bin that "I woke up like this" t'shirt.
