KEY POINTS:
A great prize awaits one lucky person at the Bay of Plenty Times Boat Show, being held for the first time at the new Baypark Blue Chip Stadium in Tauranga.
The show is open today and tomorrow from 10am to 5pm. Described by organiser Graeme Martin as "a new generation boat show for the Bay".
It features 5000 sq m of indoor pavilions and marquees, free soft-bait seminars and the chance to win a $10,000 prize supplied by Murray and Maureen Condor from Powerboat Services - a 4m Quintrex Hornet, complete with trailer, 15hp Yamaha outboard and a range of accessories and safety gear.
To enter, visitors will need to collect three stamps from three ticket Stamp Stops, fill in their contact details and put their ticket into the "in bin" at the show entrance.
The 60-minute soft-bait seminars are being staged by two Sulphur Point retailers, Tauranga Hunting and Fishing and Tackle King.
For the more family-oriented, Bill Hohepa's Fishing Family Fun Zone in the Coastguard Pavilion includes a fun fishing game with lots of prizes.
Martin says the show is enjoying good support from the area's suppliers and believes that reflects how important the Tauranga coastal region is to the marine and fishing industries.
"The region has a huge boating and fishing culture with almost 30,000 boats of all shapes and sizes calling the Bay of Plenty home.
"The region is reputed to have some of the best fishing in the country, with almost 20 annual fishing tournaments and a bag full of current world fishing records."
Adult tickets to the show are $10 and a family pass is $20.
