With ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie unleashing some wet and windy weather on the Kapiti district, a group of boys from Youthquest Kapiti, a not-for-profit Paraparaumu based organisation which helps at-risk youth, helped with sandbag filling and more.
Youthquest worked with Kapiti Coast District Council staff to fill up to 1000 sandbags at the council's Otaki depot today as well as protecting flood-prone homes.
And council staff at its Paraparaumu depot filled around 2500 sandbags over the past two days.
Council operations manager Tony Martin said the council staff appreciated the extra sets of hands at a busy time.
"We've worked with Youthquest on a number of occasions and it's great to see the guys getting involved and helping out in their own communities."
