Peyton Morete wins Wellington Superstar Talent Quest

SONGSTRESS: Peyton Morete has won the Wellington Superstar Talent Quest.

Peyton Morete, from Raumati Beach, was the overall winner of the Wellington Superstar Talent Quest.

More than 50 acts featuring instrumentalists, soloists and bands were shortlisted to the top 16 in three heats at the competition held at the Little Theatre in Lower Hutt.

Peyton, 14, performed her original Survive in the heats and then sung Storm for the finals.

She felt nervous leading up to the winner announcement because of the wide range of talent.

"Once they started listing all the requirements for the winner I knew she had won it," proud mother Kylie Morete said.

"They were looking for someone who engaged the audience, performance level and musicianship.

National list MP Chris Bishop, who was one of the judges, said, "Peyton you blew us away as judges.

"Brilliant performance."

And Steve Davey, from MusicWorks, said while presenting the award, "The difference between singing covers and your own songs is the level of emotion you can put into your own song, which Peyton did so well, after she shared the song meaning before she began singing."

Peyton won a $500 MusicWorks voucher.

The event was put on by Goodtime Music Academy in partnership with MusicWorks Wellington.
