Paraparaumu College students have a ball

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon was the theme for Paraparaumu College's annual ball held at Southward Car Museum on Saturday.

After arriving in various forms of transportation, students walked under a purpose built arch, which had greenery and flowers hanging off it, before entering the main room which had $6000 worth of lighting, lots of urns, giant gold harp, a statue, ivy on walls and staircases, through to dried rose petals on tables.

PartyPerfect kept the students nourished before a band called Down To Funk, featuring ex-student Luther Hunt, entertained.

The traditional balloon drop was replaced by confetti cannons which fired flower petals.

The last dance of the night was a tribute to Prince and comprised his song Purple Rain.

The arch entrance, which had white sheets draped around it, later became a photo set.

"The ball was amazing," deputy head girl Kellee Candy said.

"Everything went as good as it could have."

Deputy head boy Jared Parker said "everything flowed perfectly.

"To see everyone so happy and enjoying themselves was amazing.

"We had no behavioral issues with anyone."

His personal highlight was when everyone sang Happy Birthday to him to mark his 17th birthday.

Footage of everyone arriving for the ball is being turned into a timelapse video which will be shown at the college soon.
