Kapiti College year 11 student Angus Baker set a new record of 1.78m in the intermediate boys' high jump, breaking a record last set by John Flynn in 1979.
Angus, who is the North Island Secondary Schools junior high jump champ, achieved the result in the college's recent athletics day.
Meanwhile, Louis Northcote, year 9, broke Brad Woodham's 1981 record in the discus, throwing 31.55m. Louis won a number of other field events and was convincingly the year 9 boy's champion, while Ashley Hill easily won the year 9 girls' title.
Naomi Dyer and Korowai Te Huia were the senior champions. Tatyana Baynes and Lochy Jenson won the year 11 titles, while Kiki Tahere-Porter and Finn McConnochie were the best in year 10.
Organiser Reg Goston said that he was very happy at the high rate of participation by students and the enthusiasm that was evident.
