"I loved this challenge but wanted a more hands on approach in terms of helping a community.
"Helping a family into a decent home seemed a logical solution.
"A solution which meant I could raise money and be involved on the front line, so to speak.
"Watching a new home owner receive their key at a dedication ceremony is such a special and satisfying experience.
"I also enjoy getting my hands dirty, as building with Habitat can mean anything from digging trenches, to mixing cement, to throwing mud and creating a wall in Ethiopia, just whatever needs doing."
She said volunteering with Habitat was a rewarding experience and "a wonderful way to meet new and interesting people from hugely diverse backgrounds, who come together for a common goal".
"Anyone can volunteer with Habitat for Humanity - no special skills required, just a willingness to pitch in and do what needs doing.
"I have been on builds with 18 year olds and 75 year olds and pretty much every age in between."
She said, "Habitat is a hand up, not a hand out.
"Families provide sweat equity and work on homes themselves.
"In most cases the family pays off an affordable mortgage."
The goal of Habitat is to eliminate substandard or poverty housing in partnership with families in need.
