Minister of Transport Simon Bridges has turned the first sod of earth to mark the start of construction for the $330 million Peka Peka to Otaki Expressway.
The ceremony took place on Friday afternoon at the Pare-o-Matangi Reserve, Rahui Rd, Otaki.
Mr Bridges also confirmed an interchange would be built at Peka Peka and the new expressway would also have shared pathway associated with it.
Otaki MP Nathan Guy said the start of work was "great news" along with a shared pathway to Otaki and interchange at Peka Peka which he had pushed hard for.
The new expressway was "a very important project for Kapiti and Horowhenua locals as well as the wider region".
