"It will make a significant difference in terms of traffic coming to and from, and of course it will divert traffic out of areas where traffic goes through at the moment."
Accompanying Mr Little on the tour, conducted by expressway personnel, was Mana MP Kris Faafoi and the party's two Otaki electorate candidates Rob McCann and Penny Gaylor.
The preferred candidate will be selected on August 28.
Mr McCann, closely associated with the White Ribbon organisation, was the party's candidate in the last general election.
Ms Gaylor is the Otaki ward councillor for the Kapiti Coast District Council, and has put her name forward to be Kapiti's representative on the Wellington Regional Council when the local body elections take place in October.
"We're lucky to have two very strong contenders and a depth of talent that allows us to have a good serious contest," Mr Little said.
Ms Gaylor said it was amazing how much had been achieved since her tour with council three months ago.
"Its getting pretty exciting," she said.
"They're ahead of schedule, which is brilliant for the community."
It was Mr McCann's first visit of the project.
"It was interesting to see the shear scale that has taken place," he said.
"The reality is we've always needed a road, and this is the road we've got, and now we have to put it to the best possible use and make sure local politicians and all the people building the road are in constant communication because there's going to be some huge changes with traffic flows into our community."
