Waiheke Island has said goodbye to one of its favourite citizens, kaumatua Kato Kauwhata.
The 92-year-old died in Auckland City Hospital after a short illness.
His body was taken back to Waiheke on Sunday afternoon for a tangi, before being transported on Tuesday to his ancestral home at Nga Wha in Northland for burial.
