Tai Tokerau by-election votes can be cast from today

The first votes in the Tai Tokerau by-election can be cast from today.

People who can't get to a polling booth on election day can cast an advance vote at any of the 16 voting facilities across the electorate.

Voters enrolled, but currently overseas, can vote in person at posts in Apia, London and Sydney, or can have voting papers sent to them.

Chief Electoral Officer, Robert Peden says early voting is "essential" - as unlike a general election, there will be no polling places open outside the electorate on election day.
