There's outrage in Rotorua after two brand new Maori carvings were attacked with a chain saw.
The two Pou mark the entrance way to Rotorua from Tauranga along the new State Highway 36.
Deputy Mayor Trevor Maxwell says he can't believe or understand why someone would want to damage them. He says they were beautiful works and one of them was by a young carver who was very proud to have it displayed so prominently.
Police have responded by starting an investigation, and mounting extra patrols.
