The Government yesterday launched a plan aimed at building a competent, experienced and skilled Maori health and disability workforce.
Associate Health Minister Mita Ririnui launched the 10-to-15-year plan, Raranga Tupuake, developed by the Maori health directorate of his ministry.
The plan aims to increase the number of Maori in the health and disability workforce, expand their skills and qualifications and ensure they have equitable access to training opportunities.
Mr Ririnui said there would be a focus on promoting career opportunities to secondary school leavers, older Maori and Maori with careers in other sectors.
Other actions would include encouraging the use of internships at Maori providers.
