A tiny Northland school's artwork is raising attention overseas.
Eleven children from Kaitaia's Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Pukemiro have their paintings celebrating Matariki (Maori New Year) on show at a Sydney art gallery.
Primary school students from Australia, the United States, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and East Timor will have their artwork auctioned at the Big Ones, Little Ones indigenous art exhibition at Gallery Amichi.
Five-year-old Te Oranoa Matthew painted a star and koru to symbolise matariki and was excited about being in the newspaper.
All proceeds from the event, which runs until October 1, will go to the schools involved.
